Sherman Kreiner

Sherman Kreiner

Managing Director, University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation

Sherman Kreiner has been a community economic development practitioner in the United States and Canada for 35 years. He has particular expertise in worker coops and employee ownership and has written extensively on both subjects. Mr. Kreiner was a member of the University of Winnipeg Board of Regents from 2000-2005, including Deputy Chair. He was a founding director of the University of Winnipeg Foundation and the University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation, where he serves as Managing Director. UWCRC’s mandate is to build a University community incorporating four pillars of sustainability – environmental, social, economic and cultural.

In 2012, Mr. Kreiner became the University’s Vice-President, Student Life. In 2013 he was named a recipient of the University of Winnipeg’s 100th Convocation Award for exemplary service to the University. Esquire Magazine named him one of the “Men and Women under 40 who are Changing the Nation” for his work in the United States. He also received the Ohio Employee Ownership Leadership Award.

Mr. Kreiner has a long relationship with Mondetta, dating back to the 1990’s when he served as President and CEO of the Crocus Investment Fund, which became an equity investor in the company.

Michael Menzies was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He began his career in law enforcement in 1978 with the City of Winnipeg.  After leaving a law enforcement career, he founded Inner-Tec Security Services.  He guided Inner-Tec to become one of the largest independent security organizations in Canada and then sold the business to Imperial Parking Corporation in 1995. He then joined Impark in an executive role as President of Impark Services.  Michael purchased back Inner-Tec in 1999 and continued to build the business as Chair, President and CEO. In April, 2003, the Inner-Tec Group was sold to a multinational security organization based in London, England.

Michael has over thirty (30) years in executive management and ownership of parking companies. Since divesting his interest in various companies, Michael remains very active in Menzies Investments Group Inc. which owns a variety of service sectors businesses in Vancouver, BC. His current positions are President/CEO of Universal Flagging (June 2011 – May 2016), Chair/CEO of The Universal Group (effective June 2016), President of M3 Personnel (March 2008 – current) and President and COO to GOPark Management ( 2012 – current).

Michael has been on Mondetta Charity Foundation’s Board of Directors for the past thirteen years.

Raj Bahl

Rajeev (Raj) Bahl was born in Nairobi, Kenya. At a young age he left his native land with his family, first to London, England and later Toronto before settling in Winnipeg. His formative years were spent dedicated to family, sport and education.

Raj entered the University of Winnipeg under an entrance scholarship and this is where he met his eventual business partners to form Mondetta Clothing. Raj later completed his BA degree at the University of Manitoba with a major in Applied Economics.

Raj is the EVP SALES at Mondetta and is responsible for Mondetta’s strong value proposition that has been seeded over 30 years of efforts.   A large part of his business and personal philosophy is formed by the tenets and concepts of Karma: following principles of cause and effect. This means the company adheres to, insists upon and demands fair practices with both customers and suppliers. Personally this guides his belief that the actions one takes will yield the respective future consequences. To be able to practice this philosophy not only at home but also half way around the world is fitting given Mondetta was formed under the defining spirit of ” A Small World.”

Kish Modha M.Sc., was born in Jinja, Uganda to Indian parents who had migrated to Uganda from India in the early 1930s. After growing up on the Kenyan coast, Kish attended schools in Mombasa (Kenya), Pune (India), University College, Nairobi (Kenya) and Makerere University, Kampala (Uganda), completing a B.Sc and M.Sc in zoology.

Kish was forced to leave Uganda in 1972 when the Ugandan Government expelled people of Indian origin from the country. After operating several photography studios in Manitoba from 1975 to 1995, he served as a General Manager of Mondetta Clothing Company until 2014. In 2004, Kish spearheaded the creation of a Foundation. Mondetta Charity Foundation acquired charitable status in 2006, and Kish voluntarily served as the President/Chair until 2017.  He now serves as Past President.

An active community member, Kish has worked with the Rotary Club and several other service organizations, including serving on the board of Save the Children Canada from 2008-2014. For his philanthropic work he was awarded “Humanitarian of the Year” in 2014 by the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and “Unsung Hero” in 2015 by the India Association of Manitoba. He lives in Winnipeg with his wife, Divya.

Tim Dumore

Tim Dumore

Orthodontist at Dr. Tim Dumore & Team

Dr. Tim Dumore is an Honourary Board member of MCF.  Tim was born in Winnipeg and grew up in St. James. He obtained his bachelor of science and completed his dental school training at the University of Manitoba in 1991. Dr. Dumore began practicing as an orthodontist in Winnipeg in 1998. He has served with the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists, the Manitoba Orthodontic Society, has acted as the chairman of the Manitoba Dental Association Annual Convention Committee and is a co-director of the Winnipeg Progressive Dental Study Club. To help others in their quest to become orthodontists, Dr. Dumore has been an instructor at the University of Manitoba graduate orthodontic program since 1998.  He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, having passed the first re-certification exam in 2008, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists (Canada).

Dr. Dumore has been married to his wife Jennifer since July 29, 1989, a date he has inscribed inside his wedding band, so he’ll never forget! They have three children — Thomas, Lucas, and Danica — two dogs and two pet rats. In 2012, Dr. Dumore was a member of a team of five dentists who traveled to Kampala, Uganda with Mondetta Charity Foundation to provide dental care to children at Kamwokya Primary School. The need for dental services for these children remains high, so he hopes to return in the future.

Cyndi Adams

Originally from Brandon, now living in Winnipeg, Cyndi has been involved with other Boards including the Brandon Humane Society and Medi-Chair Canada Ltd., among others.

Previously she worked with grassroots organizations with projects in Uganda and Dominican Republic. After returning from a trip to Uganda, she was approached to sit on the MCF Board, and after seeing firsthand the needs there, it was an easy decision to accept.

She also assists with her daughter on her cause, Pawsitive Communities, which works to improving conditions for animals on First Nations Reserves.

Working with Qualico, two fabulous grown children, great friends, and a handsome golden retriever keep her busy.

Mev Pavagadhi was born in Nairobi, Kenya. Shortly after his family moved to London, England. In 1976, his family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is here that Mev attended the University of Manitoba, graduating with a degree in Economics (Advanced).

Mev is currently a principal in a Group Benefits business in Winnipeg with clients across Canada. He is also a member of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO).

Mev is one of the founders of Winterpeg Classic, a local charity event that strives to support various local children’s charities. As a strong supporter of Plan International, Mev’s enthusiasm for charities that support children extends globally, allowing him to give back to the country in which he was born. With Mondetta’s passion in supporting children in both Kenya and Uganda, a Board position was a natural fit for Mev.

Mev is married and has 2 daughters.

Brian O'Leary

Superintendent, Seven Oaks School Division

Brian O’Leary, B.A., B.Ed., Med., is in his sixteenth year as Superintendent of Seven Oaks School Division. Seven Oaks School Division is responsible for 11,000 students and 1,500 staff.  Seven Oaks serves a diverse and culturally rich working class suburban area of Winnipeg. Brian is proud that Seven Oaks values inclusive education. Under Brian’s leadership the division has made dramatic gains in student engagement, attendance and high school graduation.

Brian came to the Seven Oaks Superintendency after working as principal of Isaac Newton, R.B. Russell, Garden City and Maples. He has served as president of the Manitoba Association of School Superintendents, sits on the National Council of the Canadian Education Association, is active with the United Way of Winnipeg and teaches courses in Education at the University of Winnipeg.
